Frequently Asked Questions
Get answers to common questions about CTG packages, devices, rescue services, and insurance coverage
What are the different CTG packages available?
We offer three comprehensive packages:
- Basic ($16): ≤3,500m altitude, 14 days duration, $35,000 death/disability coverage
- Plus ($150): ≤5,500m altitude, 14 days duration, enhanced rescue coverage ($4,500)
- Pro ($500): ≤6,000m altitude, 60 days duration, $17,500 death/disability, $6,000 rescue coverage
All packages include medical coverage ($3,500) and body repatriation ($2,000) with $100 medical deductible.
When does my insurance coverage become effective?
Insurance coverage becomes effective T+2 (2 days after purchase). This waiting period ensures proper policy processing and device activation. Plan your trek accordingly to ensure you're covered from day one of your adventure.
What areas are covered by CTG insurance?
Coverage applies only within legal tourist routes approved by the Nepal Government. This includes all major trekking circuits like Everest Base Camp, Annapurna Circuit, Langtang Valley, and other officially designated trekking areas. Unauthorized routes are not covered.
What safety devices are included in CTG packages?
CTG includes four essential safety devices:
- Tracer: GPS + SOS satellite communicator with 240h battery life, works in -30°C
- Messager: Iridium-based global communicator with two-way messaging, 120h battery
- Band: Vital signs monitor (heart rate, blood oxygen, temperature), 100h standby
- First Aid Kit: Compact emergency medicines and supplies for trekkers
How accurate is the GPS tracking?
Our devices provide ≤10m GPS accuracy with global positioning capabilities. The Tracer uses the Beidou satellite system while the Messager utilizes Iridium satellites, ensuring reliable location tracking even in the most remote areas of Nepal.
What happens if I don't carry or charge my Tracer device?
The Tracer device must be powered, active, and worn during accidents for insurance coverage to apply. Device misuse (not carrying or charging) will void your insurance claims. Always ensure your device is charged and functioning before starting your trek.
How fast is the emergency response time?
Our rescue system is designed for rapid response:
- 30 seconds: Call center answers SOS alarms
- 30 minutes: Helicopter dispatch for emergency evacuation
- 24/7 availability: Continuous monitoring and rescue coordination
We work with Assist America call center and local rescue partners to ensure the fastest possible response.
What is the rescue process when I press the SOS button?
The rescue process follows these steps:
- SOS button pressed on Tracer/Messager device
- Alert received by HGN Rescue Platform + Assist America Call Center
- Call center validates vital data and contacts guide/insured
- Rescue plan matched and helicopter/ground rescue dispatched
- Patient transported to hospital, insurance claim initiated
- Claim processed with medical and rescue documentation
Are there any medical conditions that are excluded from coverage?
Exclusions include:
- Pre-existing severe medical conditions
- Pregnancy-related complications
- Organ transplant history
- Certain chronic diseases
- Accidents on unauthorized trekking routes
Please review the complete policy terms for detailed exclusions before purchasing.
Is altitude sickness covered by CTG insurance?
Yes, altitude sickness coverage is included under certain conditions with co-payment. The Band device continuously monitors vital signs to detect early symptoms, and our platform provides immediate access to medical guidance for altitude-related health issues.
What documentation is required for insurance claims?
Claims require:
- Video/photo proof of the incident
- Medical documentation from treating physicians
- Guide testimony and incident reports
- Device data showing location and vital signs during incident
Our platform automatically archives rescue data to support your claims process.
